Twenty-one of the more than 200 Nigerian girls kidnapped from a school in Chibok by Boko Haram fighters in 2014 have been released, according to Nigeria's presidency.
The release followed negotiations between Nigeria's government and Boko Haram brokered by Red Cross and Swiss government officials, a spokesman for the country's president said on Thursday.
"It is confirmed that 21 of the missing Chibok girls have been released and are in the custody of the Department of State Services," presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said in a statement.

"The release of the girls ... is an outcome of negotiations between the administration and the Boko Haram brokered by the International Red Cross and the Swiss government," Shehu said.
The girls were exchanged for four Boko Haram prisoners in Banki in northeast Nigeria, AFP news agency said quoting a local source.
"For some time now there has been some negotiations between the Nigerian government and Boko Haram," according to a report from the Nigerian city of Kano.

The superstar has confirmed to People magazine that she is indeed expecting her first baby at age 50.
"We thank God for our blessing," she said.

She has kept a low profile since then, but was spotted recently by "Entertainment Tonight" shopping at a baby store.

Suspect: Fatal Plane Crash Was Intentional

Investigators believe a twin-engine airplane was intentionally crashed onto a busy street in Connecticut, killing a student pilot, local police and a federal official said Wednesday.
The Piper PA 34 light aircraft went down Tuesday afternoon on Main Street in East Hartford near the front gate of Pratt & Whitney, a manufacturer of aircraft engines for both civil and military aviation, raising fears the crash was an act of terrorism.
The flight instructor, who survived the crash, told first responders and investigators he got into an altercation with the student pilot, which resulted in a struggle in the cockpit, a US official with direct knowledge of the investigation said.
The official said it appeared the student pilot was frustrated with his family and said he was being forced to become a pilot.
East Hartford police and federal authorities did not give the student pilot's name, but on Wednesday night the mayor and police chief in Orland Hills, Illinois, called a news conference and identified him as Feras M. Freitekh, a Jordanian national with a student visa.
Orland Hills Mayor Kyle R. Hastings said identification papers on the student pilot listed his address as Orland Hills.
But police discovered Freitekh had never lived in Orland Hills and only used the address to receive mail, Orland Hills Police Chief Thomas Scully said.
The owner of the residence at the address knew Freitekh's father and allowed the son to use the address to receive official mail, Scully said.
No recorders or video were on board the small plane, meaning there is no direct evidence to corroborate what the flight instructor said.
But based on initial interviews, authorities believe the instructor's account is truthful and that the student pilot intentionally crashed the plane.
East Hartford police released few details at a Wednesday afternoon news conference, except to say the crash appeared to be intentional. They didn't provide a motive.
"Information is indicating it was an intentional crash," police Lt. Josh Litwin said at a news conference. "But the circumstances beyond it being intentional, or why it was intentional, or how it was intentional, are all being investigated at this time."
The FBI, National Transportation Safety Board, the Federal Aviation Administration and Connecticut State Police are all investigating.
Local law enforcement called in the FBI, citing infrastructure concerns due to the crash's proximity to Pratt & Whitney.
The NTSB tweeted that the FBI is now the lead investigator.
Although Orland Hills police are not investigating the crash, Scully said the case is now being investigated as a suicide.
The instructor, identified as Arian Prevalla, is in critical condition, Bridgeport Hospital spokesman John Cappiello said Wednesday.
Mark Poole, owner of Meriden Aviation Center and a former student of Prevalla's, said Prevalla handles most of the area's training of twin-engine aircraft.
Poole said Prevalla's business model focused on international students obtaining visas and providing training for commercial airline pilots.
Law enforcement officials are trying to get a search warrant to investigate the student pilot's computer. They also plan to interview his family.
The wreckage of the plane remained on Main Street in East Hartford on Wednesday. Litwin said the street might be cleared as early as late Wednesday.
A woman and her three daughters who were in a vehicle almost struck by the plane have been released from a local hospital, Litwin said.
Peter Goelz, former NTSB managing director, said the flight instructor could not have disabled the student pilot's controls.
"In that kind of aircraft, the Piper 34, the Seneca, it's simply a dual control aircraft, as most private planes are, and there's no way to shut down ... one side of the controls or the other," Goelz said. "It's simply in normal circumstances, one person is flying the plane and that's it."
If there were a struggle over the controls, it would have been "an impossible situation," he said.

Goelz said he'd like to know if the decision to crash the plane was a spur-of-the-moment or a long-term decision, and whether somebody encouraged the student pilot to do it. Goelz also wondered if there were clues about the pilot's psychological makeup.

Russia Threatens To Shoot Down U.S. Aircraft

Image result wey dey for Russia Threatens To Shoot Down US Jet
Russia has warned the United States not to intervene militarily in Syria against forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad, threatening that it may shoot down any aircraft attempting to launch strikes.
In a bluntly worded statement, a spokesman for Russia’s defense ministry warned that Russia and the Syrian government had deployed sufficient air defenses to block any potential attacks.

It follows rumbling in Washington that the White House may be considering launching limited strikes against some Syrian regime military targets as an alternative option for moving forward in the Syrian conflict after the collapse of U.S.-Russian cease-fire negotiations.

US and Filipino President in a Cold War

In a fiercely worded speech yet again, Filipino President Rodrigo Duterte said he would "break up with America" because the US has reportedly refused to sell weapons to Manila. He said he would rather choose Russia and China to buy arms adding that Washington's rivals were ready to help him. He also accused the US of failing the Philippines and said he was realigning his foreign policy. "If you don't want to sell arms, I'll go to Russia. I sent the generals to Russia and Russia said 'do not worry, we have everything you need, we'll give it to you'. "And as for China, they said 'just come over and sign and everything will be delivered'," Duterte said on Tuesday (4 October).
"I have lost my respect for America," Duterte said as he complained at length in two speeches about calls by the United States, the United Nations and the European Union to respect human rights.
"Mr Obama, you can go to hell."
Duterte also branded Americans "hypocrites" and warned there may come a time when he would completely break the two nations' alliance, which includes a mutual defence pact.
"Eventually I might in my term, break up with America. I would rather go to Russia or to China. Even if we do not agree with their ideology, they have respect for the people. Respect is important," he said.
Duterte, who took office on June 30, has said the top priority of his six-year term is eradicating illegal drugs in society, and he is "happy to slaughter" three million addicts to achieve his goal.
More than 3,000 people have died in the crime war so far, according to official figures, with rights groups warning of vigilante death squads carrying out mass murder and a general breakdown in the rule of law.
Although he uses fierce rhetoric, Duterte insists he is not breaking any laws, that police are killing only in self defence and many of the other deaths are as a result of gang wars.
- 'The right way' -
Nevertheless, a UN rights envoy has warned Duterte may be breaking international law with incitements to kill.
Obama also last month urged Duterte at a regional summit in Laos to respect the rule of law and carry out his drug war "the right way".
A few days earlier, Duterte had branded Obama a "son of a whore" after being told the US president would raise the rights concerns at the summit.
Military ties between the Philippines and the United States had grown stronger in recent years partly in response to China's expanding presence in the strategically vital South China Sea.
China claims nearly all of the sea, even waters close to the Philippines and other Southeast Asian nations, and has in recent years built artificial islands in the disputed areas that are capable of hosting military bases.
To counter China, the Philippines' previous president, Benigno Aquino, sought to draw the United States closer.
This included the signing of a new defence pact that allowed thousands more US soldiers to rotate through the Philippines and for American military hardware to be stationed on Filipino bases.
Aquino also launched international legal action that in July saw a UN-backed tribunal declare China's vast claims in the sea illegal.
However Duterte has reversed course, warning he wants to scrap the new pact and that he will not allow any more joint patrols with the United States in the South China Sea.
On Tuesday, Duterte told Filipinos they could not count on the United States, the Philippines' former colonial ruler.
"Don't believe in those Americans. they will not fight to die for us," he said.
About 2,000 American and Filipino troops are taking part in the eight-day war games, which will be held partly in waters near the disputed areas of the South China Sea.
In speeches to launch the exercises in Manila, military chiefs from both sides acted as if relations were normal.
"I am confident that we will continue to build our partnership and capabilities together," the 3rd US Marine Expeditionary Force deputy commander, Brigadier General John Jansen, said at the opening ceremony.
However a statement released by the US Embassy in Manila, hinted at the tensions.

"We will continue to honour our alliance commitments, and we expect the Philippines to do the same," embassy spokeswoman Molly Koscina said in the statement.

Pope: Trump is not a Christian

Related imageThe pontiff suggests that Trump is not a Christian. Trump responds that the Vatican is the Islamic State's 'ultimate trophy.' Pope Francis may have picked a fight with the wrong bully. After months of taking subtle swipes at Republican politicians, the pontiff went for a direct punch at Donald Trump on Thursday, suggesting the GOP poll leader is “not Christian” because of his desire to build a massive wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Story Continued Below And Trump, practically pre-programmed to counterpunch, fired off a withering retort. He not only called the pope’s comments “disgraceful,” but he also suggested that the Islamic State would find the Vatican to be a mighty fine target.

The bishop of Rome set off the tiff aboard the papal plane as he was flying home from Mexico, the country whose government Trump has made a scapegoat for all that ails the United States. And as Pope Francis found himself answering questions from reporters about Trump, he did not mince words.
Image result wey dey for Pope: Trump is not a Christian"A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian," Francis told reporters in response to a specific question about the presidential candidate, according to Reuters' account. "This is not in the gospel."
Asked by a reporter whether an American Catholic could vote for him, the pope demurred.
“As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that. I say only that this man is not Christian if he says things like that,” he said, before referring to Trump directly: “We must see if he said things in that way, and in this I give the benefit of the doubt.”
Moments later, Trump's campaign issued a full statement in which he called the pope's questioning of his faith "disgraceful."
"If and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS, which as everyone knows is ISIS’s ultimate trophy, I can promise you that the Pope would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President because this would not have happened. ISIS would have been eradicated unlike what is happening now with our all talk, no action politicians," he said in the statement.
"For a religious leader to question a person’s faith is disgraceful. I am proud to be a Christian and as President I will not allow Christianity to be consistently attacked and weakened, unlike what is happening now, with our current President. No leader, especially a religious leader, should have the right to question another man’s religion or faith. They are using the Pope as a pawn and they should be ashamed of themselves for doing so, especially when so many lives are involved and when illegal immigration is so rampant," the statement concluded.
Pope Francis has shown a willingness in the past to engage on matters of political contention. During a visit to the United States last year, he delivered a message to Congress on the importance of addressing the role of humans in environmental changes. And he has urged Catholics to intervene in political affairs where they saw the right. "Ask the Lord to help you not sin, but if you get your hands dirty, ask for forgiveness and keep going," he told a group last May.
But the decision to directly take on Trump is in a whole other league.
Trump has, in the past, called the pope "political," and last week he slammed the pope's visit to Mexico's border this week as showing a lack of understanding of the situation there.
"I think that he doesn’t understand the problems our country has. I don’t think he understands the danger of the open border that we have with Mexico," Trump told Fox Business on Feb. 11. "Mexico got him to do it because Mexico wants to keep the border just the way it is because they’re making a fortune and we’re losing.”
Asked by reporters on Thursday about being called "political,” the pope said, "Thank God he said I was a politician because Aristotle defined the human person as 'animal politicus.' So at least I am a human person."
